1. Rotting in the Sun | Rotten Tomatoes
A darkly funny and refreshingly audacious meta-comedy that skewers the business of filmmaking and our self-obsessed culture.
Writer-director Sebastián Silva's Sundance hit ROTTING IN THE SUN is a darkly funny and refreshingly audacious meta-comedy that skewers the business of filmmaking and our self-obsessed culture. While unwinding at a Mexican gay beach town, depressed director Sebastián Silva meets gregarious Instagram influencer Jordan Firstman (both playing versions of themselves), and Sebastián reluctantly agrees to collaborate on an upcoming project. But when Jordan arrives back in Mexico City, Sebastián is nowhere to be found. Jordan dances, sleeps and snorts his way through the city as he embarks on a quasi-detective journey to get to the bottom of Sebastián's disappearance.

The irony of Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Silva is that he gained his tremendous Sundance arthouse popularity by making movies that seemed only to be for himself. 14. “Rotting in the Sun” review: Sebastián Silva's most personal project
Jan 26, 2024 · Sebastián Silva's 2023 feature, "Rotting in the Sun", turns out to be one of the most refreshing takes on modernity.
Rot curdling its subject into nothingness is a real drag of a process. The first stage of human decomposition is the body’s digesting itself, or autolysis. When the heart stops, and all bodily functions fail, the fluids, gas, and waste marinate into an acidic, barely-human warzone. The skin loosens and gleams, blisters and bloats. Putrefaction...
